Am I the only one?

I started reading a new book last night.  The writing is pretty good, and the sex is pretty hot.  I should be really into it, nose buried in the pages right now.  And yet, I'm not.

You see, here is the problem.  The heroine in this book (a category from the Blaze line) is a flight attendant who is engaged, with the wedding a month away.  Working her last international flight, she encounters a tall gorgeous Aussie (mmMmmm, good!)  She then Encounters him in the airplane's restroom.  Welcome to the mile high club!  It's hot.  There's light bondage.  BUT... she's engaged!  The H&h have that amazing instant romance novel connection, but she is already committed to another man.  No way around it, she cheated.

As a reader I have my kinks (things that get me in a good way every time.)  I also have my deal breakers.  Infidelity is one of mine. I just hate it.  It can make me turn away from a well written novel in disgust.  Such behavior limits my ability to connect with the character.  I just... can't.

Do you have this problem?  Is there something else that is a deal breaker for you?

Yes, that is definitely a deal breaker for me too - infidelity is not what I consider "good" romance.

Sperm stealing--having sex with a guy just to get pregnant, and then never planning to tell the guy about the baby. HATE that storyline.

Cheating sucks too, but it's not always a deal breaker for me.

You are not the only one.

It's not an absolute, absolute deal breaker for me (extreme circumstances, I can forgive) but in most romances? Do not want.

Depends on the circumstances, but yeah in this case, total deal breaker. Why? She committed to marry another man. She made a promise. Then she cheats. No way.

Now if she'd broken off the engagement or found fiance' with another woman, or man as the case may be, then I could live with it. But this, uh uh.

I agree with everyone here. I can't stand the hero or heroine to cheat. Why b/c its not right in a romance. Besides if you are that committed to going through with the wedding and yet cheated so easily whats to say you won't on your new man down the line?

Now in historicals even though it grates on me I can put up with it b/c its realistic for that time period. Wierd yes but there you go.

I dunno. Perhaps I am morally looser than the rest of y'all. But it's not a dealbreaker for me. It depends on context and character.

Fr'ex, an engagement is not a marriage. If she calls off the wedding, I call no foul.

It is definitely different if the character is in an unhappy relationship, meets the other person, and ends the current relationship before jumping into bed with the new person. I just have a difficult time when it is a supposedly happy (or at least not problematic) relationship, and the character suddenly hooks up with the new person while stringing along the perfectlt normal (if less exciting) individual they are dating/engaged to.

No doubt about it...this would drive me batty and I wouldn't be able to finish the book!

I have a book that someone sent me that is about couples who agree to have sex with other people...just this once. It's called Free Pass. I've seen good reviews I just can't get myself to read it. If your happily married why do you need to have sex with other people? IDK

And I'm with Jenb - sperm stealing sucks! lol

I hate infidelity in books too, and it does make me dislike a book if the main characters are being unfaithful.
There are some exceptions, but for the for the main part, I dont like it.

My deal breakers are definitely infidelity and another thing I HATE is 'forced' seduction. It's 2009 and it's considered rape. Blech, I hate those story lines. Oh, and whoever said sperm stealing, lol, I don't like that either, but if I see that storyline, I won't even crack the book open anyway.
